Travel tips for Texas

Pam and Elizabeth in the park before she left SA last year

One of the things I’ve liked best about writing this blog has been the stronger connection that it has brought to some of my favourite community people. It has also given opportunities for some of them to write pieces that have appeared here. In particular, Mandy (whose trip to Italy and story of Snowbell the cat have been very well read and appreciated), Shelley (whose animal adventures and photos have been great) and Pam, whose beautiful writing (eg the ghost gum post, valentine’s day, working with clay, and the post about her neighbour Marty, among others) and phenomenal, eccentric spelling have graced these pages and comments since very soon after it started.

Pam has had a busy few months. Towards the end of 2014 she and her two youngest boys moved interstate to be closer to most of her other older children. This was a big and courageous move, and of course has been both good and also challenging in parts for her. She is settling in pretty well, but I am missing her contributions to community life here, her generosity and sense of humour, and I’m missing talking about the meaning of life and solving the world’s problems with her.

Anyway, the real purpose of this post is to let people know that Pam is off on an adventure in a couple of weeks – she is going to the US to visit one of her sons, Nathan, who lives there with his partner and their 1.9 children. This will be the first time Pam has been outside of Australia, and she has saved for the trip herself, no mean feat! She will be away for 3 weeks, and will be based in Texas. I can’t remember if her new grandchild is due before or after she gets there but Nanna Pam will be in her element I’m sure. SOOOO, if anyone has been to Houston, or anywhere near there, and has any travel tips for things to see or do, or if you would just like to say bon voyage, please feel free to comment below.

It’s thrilling to see you taking on the world Pam – and rest assured that the world is lucky to have you out there in it!! Have a great time – we’ll be here cheering you on!

    Hi Pam,
How exciting! I don’t have any travel tips as I haven’t ventured outside of Australia either. I’m sure you will have a fabulous trip, meeting your new grandchild and spending time with family. Bon voyage!!
