Baskets and butterflies

Today was the annual Butterfly Walk down south, walking for a nonviolent, domestic violence free community – it has featured here before (and here) – but before that I had a great afternoon with some lovely women, learning how to weave baskets – or in my case, a coaster! It was a really peaceful, contemplative few hours. I went with my pal Helen, who is a creative soul, and met some friends of hers, including Katrina (or is it Catriona), who is the experienced weaver; Amy, whose house we were in; and more…
Here are a few photos:

It was so enjoyable to sit with a group of women and make stuff – I felt really relaxed by the time we packed up. I left Helen back at her place in Torrensville and went down to Noarlunga. Running a bit late by that stage of course, so I missed the actual walk down Beach Road, but caught up with everyone at Rotary Park.

It was a fabulous evening. Gorgeous weather and a lovely group of people having a happy time together. We had great speakers, including Helen and Wendy who worked in the very early times of the Shelter movement. It was inspiring to hear Helen (who is 85) again, and Wendy also. We also had some wonderful music from Forte, the Christies Beach High School band, and some other musicians (Bailey and Will might have been their names – I’ll find out and put it in here later if I am wrong) who also went to CBHS. They were all fantastic. There were some great decorations, lots of butterflies, some excellent costumes, and a great vibe all round: the sea in the background, the sun gradually setting, kids running around, adults having fun too. These activities are really good for feeding the spirit and keeping a sense of hope and possibility for a better life for us all. I love being part of it. I took heaps of photos – here are a few (don’t forget to click on the pics to enlarge):
