Letting go and holding on

The sun setting at the end of the night, Christies Beach, January 2017

New Year brings time for reflection, of course, and the CHO new year is no exception. We had our second January fish and chip picnic tea in the park this week and afterwards went across the road to the beach, where, once again, we participated in a New Year ritual. Kylie brought the plastic cutlery set we used last year (it’s part of the ritual too!) and we used the handles of the forks, knives and spoons to write in the sand. Close to the water the idea is to write a word or two to represent something you want to leave behind in the new year, and let the waves wash it away. Further back from the sea, out of immediate reach of the waves, we then wrote a word or phrase for something we want to hold on to or cultivate in 2017. It was a coolish night, and beautiful out, and having a good time together, then doing this sweet activity was restoring and uplifting. Here are some examples of what we wrote and a few pictures of the night in general. My camera had a flat battery, so many thanks to Kylie and Connie for copies of their snaps.
