Yesterday the final event (more or less) in The Festival of my Birthday (!) was held at Imprints. Instead of a party at home, we had it at one of my favourite places, and instead of pressies for me, I asked people to buy or contribute a book for a child, which will be given to a few different organisations I have worked with over the years down in the south. They will then either give them away to individual children, or use them in their work. Books have been really important to me in my life, and the southern area, where I work, has given me so much over the years too – it’s a great nexus to add to the celebration of my 60 years… It was a terrific arvo, with people coming and going through the day, yummy food, dear friends, lots of laughs, some surprises along the way, not one but two birthday cakes (thanks Imprints!!), poems read, stories told, my sister calling in before she had to go to work, songs sung (and not just the birthday song) and heaps of books contributed (I have more at work, as many folk have brought in books there too so there will be lots to pass on to new homes). I felt very loved and very very fortunate. So many thanks to all of you who contributed, and my love right back at you!
Here are some pictures from the day.
