Blossom time again

Spring is definitely in the air here – over the past couple of weeks I have noticed trees blossoming everywhere, particularly almond trees, with their beautiful white flowers. We have prunus trees in our street in Auburn but they are not quite out yet. Flowering trees are such a beautiful sign of the turning of the seasons, and obviously one that I notice year after year after year. Many of these shots were taken while I was out walking, and often they are of old trees, almonds planted by folk many years ago. I imagine them harvesting the nuts and enjoying them, and planting them for their usefulness – the beauty perhaps a welcome benefit towards the end of winter. The trees often look gnarled, with some limbs dead, and trunks contorted, but the flowers are as fresh as ever, many springtimes later, life asserting itself again and again.
